What an exciting journey it’s been. From weekly dance sessions in social groups to choreographing routines with Tracing Steps and now stepping onto the big stage at The Lowry Theatre, this is a huge achievement for the people we support at St George’s. We couldn’t be prouder.
Over the past couple of years, people supported at Aspires St George’s Community Hub have enjoyed group dance sessions, learning routines for international celebration days and dancing to chart hits and their favourite songs. Dance has become a big part of their week, helping to build confidence, creativity, and movement. They have even hosted their own talent shows and pantomimes, which have been a great success.
A few weeks ago, Eve from GM Moving contacted our Activity Co-ordinator, Heather, with an opportunity to take part in a dance performance at the Lyric Theatre, at the Lowry in Salford Quays. The event celebrates diversity, equality, and inclusion through movement.
Greater Manchester Moving is the movement for working together to positively change the lives of people across Greater Manchester (GM) through movement, physical activity, and sport.
We’re thrilled to announce that St George’s dance group will perform their own routine, ‘Men in Black,’ which they’ve been working on with Martine from Tracing Steps. The performance will take place on Monday 12th May at 10am, and we can’t wait to see them perform.
Here’s what some of the people we support, their families, and our team at St George’s had to say about this amazing achievement:
Karen, Service Manager at St George’s: “I feel incredibly proud to watch the group, how they have grown in confidence, how hard they have worked and never giving up. I will be very excited on Monday.”
Peter, Dancer: “I am very proud to dance and represent St George’s. Even though I am nervous, I am excited too.”
Robert, Dancer: “I am happy to be chosen to dance, I am very excited. I love the theatre and now it is me performing on stage for people to watch me.”
Seana, Dancer: “I am excited to dance. I am sometimes shy so communicate through my dancing.”
Peter’s Mum: “I am extremely proud, I love how much he has grown in confidence since attending St George’s and being part of the dance group.”
Martine, Dance Teacher from Tracing Steps: “Teaching this group of adults is a joy, their curiosity, respect, and eagerness to grow turns every session into a shared journey of discovery and laughter. I am very proud of them performing and their classes are one of the highlights of my week.”
Make sure to check out our socials to see their performance.
