Hi, I’m Sam!
I am excited to share that I have been recently promoted to Team Leader at Poppy Dementia Day Support, in Swinton and I wanted to tell you a little bit about my journey in case you are thinking of taking a similar step.
I have worked as a support worker in Salford for over 20 years, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. When the opportunity to become a Team Leader came up, I decided to apply. I am passionate about my job and wanted to gain a deeper insight into Dementia Services and this seemed like the perfect chance.
In my new role, I spend a lot of time in the office doing tasks on the computer and phone. While I miss the hands-on aspect of my previous role, I still make time to spend with the people we support. One of my favourite parts of the job is meeting potential new clients for our dementia day support and getting to know their families. It is important to me to build a relationship with families and assure them that their loved ones are in good hands at Poppy.
I have only been in this role for a few months, but I am really looking forward to the opening of the Poppy Dementia Suite. The specialist Poppy Dementia Suite is the first of its kind for Salford and is located in the Humphrey Booth Resource Centre in Swinton. It is a warm and welcoming purpose-built space, offering a home-from-home experience for individuals requiring residential dementia care. I am excited to work closely with our fantastic staff team and to continue creating a safe, friendly, and homely environment for everyone we support.
If there’s a career opportunity you’ve always wanted to apply for, I think you should go for it! It is the best thing I have done.
