Meet Peter, the master of all skills at St George’s. Four days a week, he lives his best life at St George’s Community Hub, two days with friends and enjoying the daily activities and the other two days as a kitchen volunteer in Café G.
Recently we spoke with Peter and asked if he would share his inspiring story with us, he said…
“Hi, I am Peter.
I spend four days a week at St George’s, two of those days I hang out with my friends and enjoy the daily activities like gardening, boxing, baking and days out to places like the RHS, cinema and bowling. It is always good fun and I have made lots of friends, as well as my girlfriend Shauna.
After coming to St George’s for six months, an opportunity to volunteer in the kitchen came up. I used to help my Dad in his pub back in Wales, so I already had some skills in the kitchen. Now, every Tuesday and Wednesday, I volunteer in Café G, I wash dishes, clean up, serve buffets and help the catering staff with anything they need. I love being busy and helpful.
Volunteering has helped me get out of the house, fill my days with something I enjoy and build my confidence. I have even started travelling independently to St George’s on the bus.”
Karen, the Service Manager at St George’s says “Peter’s journey has been amazing, when he first started at St George’s, he was quite shy. Peter has grown and matured so much since being part of our activity groups and volunteering, Peter has lots of friends here and will give anything a go.”
