Aspire has been supporting Mikey in Salford for several years. Before that, Mikey lived in Wales and had a girlfriend named Janice. Despite the distance, Mikey and Janice have maintained their relationship, regularly meeting up and talking over the phone. They have known each other since they were young, so staying in touch was very important to them. Aspire support workers have made sure this happens.

To help Mikey maintain his friendship with Janice, Aspire Support Workers arrange visits to Chester every 3-4 months so they can meet up and have lunch together. Helena, Aspire Support Worker, says, “It is so lovely when they reunite. Mikey spends the whole day laughing with Janice, he finds her company fun.”

Last summer, Aspire support workers, along with Janice and her support team, organised a surprise visit for Janice to attend Mikey’s 60th birthday party. It was a lovely surprise, and Mikey was happy to have Janice there to celebrate with him. They spent the afternoon laughing and smiling.

As well as his great friendship with Janice, Mikey also has strong bonds with the men he lives with. Mikey is a people person and loves everyone! He gets along very well with Ben and Peter. Mikey enjoys teasing them, and they all have a good laugh together. Ben is very chatty and loves to share stories with Mikey. Recently, the group had a fantastic day out in Southport, enjoying the train ride, lunch, and community activities.
