April is all about celebrating social care, so we’re highlighting the incredible work of our teams. Over the next few weeks, we will spotlight some of our amazing colleagues.
Meet Leanne, team leader at St George’s Community Hub. Her journey from support worker to team leader and even a first aid trainer shows that consistency and hard work pays off.
“I started working for the NHS in June 2001, and then moved to social services and eventually Aspire. I initially worked in Supported Living, supporting people to live independently in their own home. I knew eventually I wanted to work week / daytime hours in a community hub so when the opportunity came up at St George’s I applied for the transition, it worked out great because I now have a grandson who loves sleepovers on a weekend.
Moving from Supported Living to team leader at St George’s Community Hub was a big change. It is more office-based and involves using technology and online systems, which was new to me. Despite the challenges, I’ve enjoyed learning and growing every day.
Since becoming a team leader at St George’s, I’ve also taken on the role of a first aid trainer, which I never thought I’d do before because it meant using technology. But after gaining experience and knowledge, I felt confident enough to complete courses online and deliver presentations. It is rewarding to teach my colleagues life-saving skills, crucial in our roles.
I am excited for the future at St George’s. We have lots of fun ideas and events like our summer fair on Saturday 10th August, everyone is invited! Keep an eye on our social media @aspiresalford for details. We would love to see you there.”
Next time you are at St George’s Community Hub, be sure to introduce yourself and say hello to Leanne.
