Hi Everyone,
I’m Sue Millington, the Admin Lead for Aspire.
I began my journey that led me to my current role on the 8th April 2002, when I began work for Home Care at Beechfield House just off Folly Lane in Swinton, for Salford City Council, as an Admin Assistant. One of my first roles was the inputting of carers timesheets, which incidentally is a responsibility I now oversee, for the whole of Aspire, on a monthly basis in my current role, and it feels like I have gone full circle.
In December 2002, The Home Care department moved to Sahal Court in Broughton, where I worked as part of a team of Admin officers, providing support to the Home Care Team across Salford, which eventually transformed into the Intermediate Care Enablement Team. From my early days at Sahal Court, I recognise the names of some of our current support workers who have stayed with us on our Aspire journey throughout the years, which proves that a career in care really is a vocation and not just a job. I know some of you have provided the best care and support across our city for many years.
I really loved my time at Sahal Court and made some life-long friends there. I got so much job satisfaction from being the first point of contact for Salford citizens who required assistance from the community team, knowing that I was delivering a quality service and helping people when they needed it most.
2009 saw me move to Humphrey Booth Resource Centre in Swinton, as Admin Support, which is where I still work today. Initially, I started work on reception and loved building relationships with the visitors to the centre, signposting them to the services they required. Over the years I gained experience and knowledge of the services that not only Dementia and Older persons team provided but also our Learning Disability and Supported Living teams too.
June 2015 saw the creation of Aspire and at this time I was the Admin Officer at HBRC. I had built strong relationships with other admin officers across the team, so I was then promoted to Office Manager where amongst other things, I trained in First Aid and became the Fire Control Officer for the building.
I was in this role for a while, when the opportunity of Administration Lead arose, for which I applied and was successful. In this role, I am the main point of contact for the Admin Team overall and I also supervise the central admin team here at Humphrey Booth. I provide admin support to the Executive Team and The Board of Directors. I am currently studying at Salford College on a Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship, which will soon result in a Diploma for Managers Level 3 qualification.
My role is challenging at times, but I love the job I do, and I am proud to say I work for an organisation that supports the people of this city. I am a Salford girl born and bred and would like to think that in a small way, I am giving a little back to the community I grew up in.
Back in 2002 when I first joined the organisation, I never envisaged that I would end up in the role I am in today so If you think something is not achievable, do not be afraid to challenge yourself, as you never know where it may lead.
