Today marks International Women’s Day.  There is so much to celebrate about women’s achievements and today we would like to share Jane Peacock’s inspirational journey of becoming a Director.

“Hi, I am Jane Peacock the Director of Quality and Compliance at Aspire. I am responsible for Quality Assurance, Statutory Compliance, Risk Management and Health and Safety. I work with a dedicated team to support the organisation in providing safe, high-quality, person-centred support.

As a member of the leadership team, I also share responsibility for developing the organisations strategic plans in line with our purpose, vision, and values.

Unsure of my future career path, at 17 years old, I decided on a BTEC in Family and Community Care. Little did I know this would introduce me to Supported Living and ignite my passion for working with older people and people with learning disabilities.

I started my career as a support worker in Supported Accommodation at the age of 19. I loved my job and got great satisfaction from my work, with a drive to help others and a strong core of what is right.

I wanted to be in a position where I could make more of an impact and make a positive difference to more people’s lives. I attended night school for two years to gain a Care Management qualification and put my first step on the management ladder.

My experience underpinned my training and development journey from NVQ 4 & 5 to bespoke training and awards. I have experienced all levels of management and built my knowledge in a wide range of services.

More recently I have achieved a Masters Degree in Management Practice. This was very challenging as a more mature student; however it has given me a new found wealth of knowledge to support my leadership role.

I have no regrets and continue my mission to have a positive impact on the workforce, our stakeholders and the success of the Business.

Why do you think it’s important to have women in leadership?
A diverse culture, including more women in leadership roles, is linked to more creativity, innovation, and improved performance. We need to inspire and encourage female employees, to aim high, and close the gender gap in leadership to benefit organisational success.

My international women’s day message to others is…

“Believe in yourself, think about what you want to achieve or where you want to be. Then go for it.

Sometimes life doesn’t always take you where you think. Just make the best of every opportunity. Do not underestimate the value of your life experience, this has proven invaluable to my career.

Listening to the advice of supportive managers and peers over the years, has driven me to achieve what I thought was the impossible.

 “Reach for the Stars”
