Hi, I am Hayley. I have recently joined the team at Brierley Community Hub as a Support Worker Level 3, before I working at Brierely, I worked at Alexandra Community Hub as a Level 2 Support Worker.
My aspirations for this year are to progress in my new role and learn new skills. I am so excited for this chapter, I have been made to feel really welcome by both the staff team and the people we support. Gaynor Jacobs, the service manager and the experienced staff team have taught me so much already, we have been sharing our knowledge and ideas to create a fun inclusive hub!
One of the first things I want to develop at Brierley is visual communication for the people we support. I am going to be working alongside our Communication and Engagement Officer Lesley. Lesley is helping me develop my skills, learn more about the easy-to-read graphics and visual communication. I am learning to create communication visuals on the computer using easy on the eye graphics and our new Aspire branding, I am really looking forward to getting these into practice and displaying them in our building.
It is so important to me and the staff at Brierley, that it is inclusive, and everyone has a voice and are listened to. We are going to be holding monthly forums so the people we support can discuss what they have recently enjoyed, what they haven’t enjoyed, any activities they would like to do, places they would like to visit, meals they would enjoy in the café and much more! These forums will help the people we support to share their ideas.
The people we support have completed a wish list in their support plan, with the support of myself and other staff we are helping the people we support tick off their wish list. A few of the wishes are to visit Blackpool, this is something we are organising for the summer. We can’t wait to book the Aspire bus and explore Blackpool for a fun day out!
I am really grateful to be part of a lovely team and helping the people we support to feel confident in communicating in a way that is best for them.
Thank you for reading Hayley’s blog. Make sure to visit our website in a few months to read more about Hayley’s developments at Brierley Community Hub.
