Hi, I am Claire.

I am 32 and live in one of Aspire’s Supported Living tenancies. I am supported in my own home and community by Aspire Support Workers, Julie, Laynie and Ann.

At the beginning of 2023, I set some new goals to achieve throughout the year. I love walking and one of my aspirations is to walk up Mam Tor in Derbyshire, a route of about 10km.

I try to go for a walk every day and often walk the Monton to Worsley loop line with my support worker Laynie, but we’ll be doing some extra training to get us ready.

I don’t usually walk up hills so this is something I am going to work on. Me and Laynie have decided we are going to walk up Rivington Pike once a week to practice walking on an incline and I am going to also be joining a weekly walking class at Clifton Marina to help keep fit and meet new people.

One of my favourite parts of walking is completing my 10k steps and reaching my daily goals on my fitness watch.

After a walk, I enjoy going for a lovely meal and drink, and we often stop off at different pubs and restaurants near to wherever we are walking as a reward for our efforts! The most steps I have reached is 20k, I am hoping to beat this goal in the Summer whilst training for Mam Tor.

Another activity I love to do is swimming, I aim to do thirty lengths each time I go swimming. I think it is a fun way to keep fit and healthy.

My favourite walks to go on are:

  1. Worsley to Monton Loopline
  2. Tockholes Reservoir
  3. Entwistle Reservoir
  4. Green Booth Reservoir
  5. Dovestone Reservoir

If you are like me and enjoy walking in the countryside, I think these are great flat walks to experience.
